GERALDTON, ON – Being a left leg amputee hasn’t stopped Addisyn Franceschini, 7, of Geraldton, from living a full and active life. In fact, she can do everything everyone else can do, sometimes with the help of a special device.
With a passion for the water, Addisyn was recently fitted with a waterproof “swim leg” which was funded by the War Amps. Addisyn is a member of the War Amps Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program and, as such, is eligible to receive financial assistance with artificial limbs.
Addisyn’s parents say the swim leg is making a difference in their daughter’s life. “She really likes to swim with her friends and is often the last one out of the pool. Addisyn has proven to all of us that she can achieve anything she sets her mind (and heart) to!” says Mom, Shelley.
Addisyn also appreciates her new artificial limb. “Since I got my swim leg, I’m faster in the water and can more easily get in and out of the pool. I also use it to stand in the shower.”
The War Amps encourages Champs to develop a positive attitude towards their amputation, and live to their full potential.
“Addisyn’s determination and zest for life is an inspiration to all,” said Danita Chisholm, Executive Director, CHAMP Program. “With the public’s support of the Key Tag and Address Label Service, we are happy to help young amputees like Addisyn obtain the tools they need to make everyday tasks a little easier.”
