Director of Education David Tamblyn : SGDSB 2013-14 School Year Highlights

NORTHWESTERN, ON – Superior-Greenstone District School Board covers an impressive geographical area of 45,100 km2  where students who live in communities from Manitouwadge to Dorion on the Northshore and throughout the Municipality of Greenstone are educated in the boards 17 elementary and/or secondary schools .  Director of Education David Tamblyn frankly acknowledges that though SGDSB schools, with some of the lowest student to teacher ratios in the province, have many advantages; smaller class sizes, individualized teaching , etc, the small numbers can also present real challenges.  It was clear, during a recent conversation with Mr. Tamblyn, that the SGDSB Director of Education is very proud of how the schools in SGDSB, with the support and collaboration of students, teachers, parents and the board, overcome any difficulties presented by their small numbers.

Across the SGDSB schools there were, during the 2013-14 school year, countless examples of these collaborations, wonderful experiences that left lasting impressions, and provided important lessons, not only for students but also the communities at large. OntarioNewsNorth.com challenged Director of Education David Tamblyn to choose what he felt were highlights of 2013-14, in the interview below he shares his answer and explains why he felt the pair of events were among the most significant which students experienced at Northshore and Greenstone schools during the past year.
