Superior-Greenstone DSB Appoints New Aboriginal Education Leader

sgdsbMARATHON, ON – The Superior-Greenstone District School Board is pleased to announce the
appointment of Daniel Stargratt to the position of Aboriginal Education Leader. The Aboriginal Lead will
be responsible for sustaining the critical activities established in the first six years of the Ontario First
Nation, Metis and Inuit Policy Framework and will support system-wide integration of Aboriginal
perspectives across the curriculum.
In his role dedicated solely to the portfolio of Aboriginal Education, Daniel Stargratt will work with senior administration as a liaison with the First Nation communities within the Superior-Greenstone DSB and will work with principals, teachers and students to promote academic achievement and cultural inclusiveness within the schools.

A lifelong learner, the focus of Mr. Stargratt’s undergraduate and graduate levels of study was in Native Studies having achieved a Master of Education from the University of Nipissing, a Bachelor of Education from Queens University and a Bachelor of Humanities from Laurentian University. Currently, he is completing his Supervisory Officer’s qualifications and holds Principal’s Qualifications Part I & II. He also holds senior qualifications in Native Studies and he has specialist qualifications in Special Education.Stargratt comes to our Board with previous experience with the Sudbury Catholic District School Board where he was Vice-Principal of two elementary schools. Before this, he worked with the Ministry of Education in Toronto where he was Manager of Aboriginal Education K-12.

Also to his credit are a number of conferences and workshops throughout the province including the International Confederation of Principals World Convention in Toronto. He is a trained facilitator in the Ministry of Education’s Frist Nation, Metis and Inuit (FNMI) Policy Framework and the Teacher’s Aboriginal Toolkit. He was also a sessional adjunct professor for Queen’s University’s Aboriginal Teacher Education Program.

I am very pleased to welcome Daniel Stargratt to the Superior-Greenstone DSB leadership team and senior administration. I look forward to the assistance that Daniel will provide to strengthen the collaborative relationships with First Nation, Métis and Inuit communities, organizations and our education partners. By providing such cooperative approaches, ultimately the Board looks forward with optimism to closing the achievement gap for Aboriginal learners.
