MANITOUWADGE, ON – Saturday, September 6th, the Manitouwadge Trappers Association hosted their annual “Trappers Field Day” along with a pig roast supper which was open to the entire community.  Trapper Jocelyn Bourgoin, one of the events organizers, explained to guests that the event, started by long-time Manitouwadge resident and fur harvester, Stuart Ridell, has been held for more than 30 years.

The event, for which their were 80 supper tickets available, welcomed nearly 100 people – a great turn out which organizers were very pleased with.  Among the fun contests held throughout the day were axe throwing, trap setting, fire starting and others.  Kids meanwhile, thoroughly enjoyed minnow races, playing with the little fish and having their own unofficial races long after the actual races had ended.

In addition to the pig, roasted to perfection and enjoyed by all, there were a variety of salads, buns, and desserts of course, in spite of more guests than expected coming out there was plenty of food for everyone.  Bourgoin had also provided a chili cooking demonstration earlier that afternoon, the delicious chili slow cooked over coals for several hours prior to being enjoyed during supper.

A big thanks on behalf of all participants to those who worked to put this great event together, thanks also to all the sponsors and generous businesses who donated prizes for the competitions. Below are the top placing competitors for events throughout the day, only the adults are listed as youths names were drawn at random with all kids in attendance receiving a gift.
