Certification Expands ability of forest industry in northwest Ontario to sell to wider markets

ontariowoodMARATHON, ON -The Nawiinginokiima Forest Management Corporation (NFMC) successfully obtained FSC® Forest Management and Chain of Custody certification for the Big Pic Forest on September 17, 2014. An important milestone for the Crown agency, the FSC certification will make the wood harvested on the Big Pic Forest more attractive as it will increase the ability of NFMC’s partnering mills to sell their products to wider markets.

According to Daryl Skworchinski, the Chair of NFMC’s Board of Directors, “obtaining FSC Certification on the Big Pic Forest clearly demonstrates our commitment to manage our forests sustainably, support our industry partners, and help facilitate local community and First Nation economic development.”

The NFMC extends its thanks to the associated facilities for their support in the certification process especially AV Terrace Bay Incorporated who played a significant role in attaining the FSC certification. The NFMC continues to be committed to working with its industry partners in northwest Ontario to bolster the forestry industry.
