Today New Democrats announced they would call for a referendum to approve sale of public assets in the upcoming legislative session. NDP Leader Andrea Horwath put the Liberals on notice that any sale of OLG, LCBO, Hydro One or OPG will have to be put to a referendum.

We believe our public assets don’t belong to the Liberals, Conservatives or any political party. They belong to the people of Ontario. If Kathleen Wynne is planning to sell-off any of these four important public assets, then Ontarians deserve to have their say. If the Premier wants to sell them, and continue on their privatization path, then the public deserves to have a say in this.

Andrea Horwath announced that New Democrats will introduce a motion in the upcoming legislative session calling for a referendum to approve any sale of OLG, LCBO, Hydro One or OPG.

The legislature will resume this coming week, and I, alongside my colleagues vow to stand up for improved public services such as healthcare and to protect public assets from the threat of sell-offs promised in the Liberal budget.   NDP Leader Andrea Horwath said that in the wake of the mess at MaRs, New Democrats will demand more accountability from a scandal-plagued Liberal government that has shown little regard for public dollars.

Also important to mention, with hunting season getting underway, Ontario hunters are reminded that safety needs to be their first priority when they head into the woods this autumn. Many northerners, including myself and my family enjoy hunting, and I just want to take the opportunity to remind everyone to have a safe and fun hunting season.

There are a number of things that hunters can to do keep themselves and those around them safe. Some of the safety rules to remember are wearing hunter orange, handling firearms with care; treat every firearm as though it is loaded, never shooting unless they’re sure of their target and what lies beyond. Not shooting from a vehicle or having a loaded firearm in their vehicle and of course never drinking alcohol while hunting.  I hope everyone will enjoy the season and stay safe.
