“Government should come clean about public costs of Pan/Parapan Am Games sponsorships” says NDP
QUEEN’S PARK, ON – Today NDP Finance Critic Catherine Fife demanded the government release the details about costs to the public for sponsorship of the Pan/ Parapan Am Games after reports surfaced of a scheme linking bids for security contracts to sponsoring the games.
“This new revelation leaves us very concerned about what the real criteria was foror these Games. As security costs keep rising, people are asking whether a company’s sponsorship of the games bumped them up the list of bidders, even though it might have added to the cost of the contract,” Fife said.
“In the interests of being open and transparent, will this Minister just release the full criteria for how these contracts are being awarded?”
Fife said the government needs to tell Ontarians how much these sponsorship schemes are adding to the costs of the Games security contracts.
“What does a company’s sponsorship of the Games have to do with them being awarded such significant contracts as providing Games security?”
