Wolverine defeat tough Hawk squad to win title

MANITOUWADGE, ON – The Manitouwadge High School Wolverines Junior and Senior Boys Volleyball teams have each won their division’s North Shore Secondary School Athletic Association (NSSSAA) 2014-15 championship title.  In addition to each earning 2014-15 NSSSAA boys volleyball championships, both teams did so by conquering strong Hawks team from Hornepayne High School.  For the senior Wolverines boys, the NSSSAA title is another step towards OFSAA as they will now travel to Atikokan to compete in the NWOSSAA (Northwestern Ontario Secondary School Athletic Associaitons) Boys ‘A’ Volleyball finals.

In Atikokan, the Wolverines will compete against NorWOSSA (Northwestern Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Association) Champs, the Atikokan High School Voyageurs and the SSSAA (Superior Secondary School Athletic Association) Champs École Secondaire Catholique de la Verendrye Vipères for the NWOSSAA 2014-15 Boys Volleyball Championship and the opportunity to represent the North Western Ontario Boys ‘A’ Volleyball at the 2014-15 Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) competition to be held November 20-22 in the Niagara region.

While the championship battle between the senior Wolverines and Hawks, winning Gold and Silver respectively, provided predictably intense sets, the two remaining teams would compete no less fiercely for the bronze medal.  In a tight three setter, the Nipigon Red Rock District High School Lakers and Coach Joe Braun upended the Michipicoten High School (Wawa) Vikings 19-25, 26-24, 15-12.
