ATIKOKAN, ON – The MHS Wolverines are off to the OFSAA Boys “A” Volleyball Championship after a hard fought victory over their NorWOSSA rivals, the Atikokan Voyageurs. The Wolverines defeated the SSSAA ESC de Lavendyre Viperes 3-1 on Thursday afternoon to book their spot in the finals. The hometown Voyageurs also moved past the Viperes in their earlier match. The 6 P.M. game between the Wolverines and Voyageurs was also tight with the hosts winning 3-1. That set up the rematch on Friday morning.
The Wolverines defeated the Voyageurs 3-1 on Friday, November 14 in a very loud and amazing Atikokan gymnasium. The hosts took the first set 25-18 and the Wolverines found themselves in a huge hole to start set 2(7-3) before rallying to take the set 27-25. The victory seemed to motivate the Wolverines as they won set 3: 25-18 and held off the Voyageurs 25-23 in a wild and exciting fourth set to earn their OFSAA birth in Welland.
