-UPDATE- Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision East of Longlac

GREENSTONE, ON – On December 6, 2014 at approximately 7:20pm, members of the Greenstone Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on Highway 11 approximately 78.5 kilometres east of Longlac.  Investigation determined that the collision involved an east bound passenger vehicle that crossed the centre line and struck a west bound tractor trailer unit but then was subsequently struck head on by a second west bound tractor trailer unit.  The collision resulted in the closure of Highway 11 until approximately 6:00am at which point it was opened to one lane.

The collision resulted in the death of the male driver of the passenger vehicle, 40-year-old Shane SEMPLE from Orleans, Ontario. 

Members of the Greenstone OPP detachment, the Longlac volunteer Fire Department and a Technical Traffic Collision Investigator attended the scene and assisted with the investigation.

On February 10, 2015 a 63-year-old male from Magnetawan, Ontario was issued a summons under Part III of the Provincial Offences Act for the following offences:

  1. Drive Motor Vehicle, No Currently Validated Permit contrary to section 7(1)(a) of the Highway Traffic Act
  2. Drive Commercial Motor Vehicle with a Major Defect in it or in Drawn Vehicle contrary to section 107(11) of the Highway Traffic Act

The accused is to appear in Geraldton Provincial Offences Act Court March 24, 2015.
