Perks

Well, you have to love a job with perks.  I was very pleased last week when The Echo’s editor said that he would put my classified (still looking for a dance instructor for Emeraude) in at no cost, I guess he had read here that the Marathon Mercury was as well and figured he could do the same.

The next day , there was a msg left that they needed me to go by as they had a surprise.  I din’t actually receive the msg when it was first left, a few more days and I received an email from the owner that they needed me to stop by when I had a minute. Well, being low on minutes lately my plans to go didn’t work out and Saturday arrived without me making it, now I was feeling guilty, hoping they hadn’t needed something urgent.  Yesterday, at last, I made it to The Echo.  Bunny teased that curiosity got the better of me – she was right, I couldn’t stand not knowing what this ‘surprise’ was anymore.

I walked in and they passed me a cell phone, I was immediately dissapointed, they seemed so happy to have ‘found’ it I thought, I don’t have a cell phone – why did they think this was mine? Well, I had missed the point, they did not ‘find’ this phone, nor did they ‘think’ it was mine – they knew it.  Bunny & Scott had decided I would be easier to reach if they weren’t depending on my clearly inadequate voice mail verification skills. (they happen to be the local cell dealers for TBayTel 🙂 how convenient) I WAS GETTING A FREE PHONE – With a free plan as well of course WOOOHOOO! I’ve been looking at their cell phones, literally for months but just could not justify the expense, things are so tight (still trying to find a magazine to pick up our homeschooling ” Emeraude’s Exploring” adventures).

I pounced on Bunny and gave her a huge hug, aside from how useful a cell is for me, the idea that they would be so thoughtful (not a first, they have a habit of doing really nice things – at Christmas for example there was a $50 petro gas card in my card) was just overwhelming – TOO SWEET!

So, my local paper may not have the biggest submission pay for articles/photos but the perks really are sweet.  Now, back to work, I have yet to figure out how to get enough work done to support Emeraude’s homeschooling and am running out of time with Gr.1 (I need to make a choice by then to ensure she is at grade if she has to go in to the system) looming in just over a year.

Need to call me? the new cell # is 228-2724…  Calls are free after 6 so I am hoping ppl will still use my home phone for the majority of calls but it will come in really handy when I’m gone on tours (have a couple in Feb).
