Award season is in full swing with the big night- the Academy Awards- set to air on February 24^th. Award nominated movies will slowly start trickling onto the shelves in the weeks leading up to and after the ceremony. This week, Denzel Washington demonstrates his acting chops in Flight. Denzel plays a troubled airline pilot who receives criticism and acclaim after his flight to Atlanta makes a crash landing. The role earned him a nod as Best Lead Actor where he will compete against the likes of Hugh Jackman, Bradley Cooper, Daniel Day-Lewis and Joaquin Phoenix. Flight is one of seven new releases this week. Below is a brief summary of each;

Flight: starring Denzel Washington and Don Cheadle– An airline pilot saves dozens of lives by preventing a devastating plane crash, but an investigation into the incident reveals that something isn’t quite right. (Drama) (DVD and Blu-Ray) Also available to rent at 2 Doors Down in Manitouwadge!

Here Comes the Boom: starring Kevin James and Salma Hayek– A high school teacher attempts to become a successful mixed-martial arts fighter in an effort to raise money to prevent extra-curricular activities from being eliminated at his cash-strapped school. Alex Cross: starring Tyler Perry and Matthew Fox– A highly skilled homicide detective is pushed to his limits as he deals with a psychotic serial killer who specializes in torture and pain. (Action/Crime) (DVD and Blu-Ray) Also available to rent at 2 Doors Down in Manitouwadge!

Deadfall: starring Eric Bana, Sissy Spacek and Kris Kristofferson– Two siblings are on the run and left to fend for themselves after a casino heist goes wrong. (Thriller) (DVD and Blu-Ray) Also available to rent at 2 Doors Down in Manitouwadge!

All Superheroes Must Die: Four Super Heroes are abducted by their Arch Nemesis and forced to compete in a series of challenges in order to save an abandoned town full of kidnapped innocent civilians. (Sci-Fi/Thriller) (DVD)

Celeste and Jesse Forever: starring Rashida Jones and Andy Samberg – A divorcing couple attempts the difficult task of maintaining their friendship while they both pursue other people. (Romance/Drama) (DVD)

Sushi Girl: starring Mark Hamill – A burglar reunites with his crew after six years in prison. Before long, they are planning a new scheme to try to get back some money that they feel belongs to them. (Crime/Thriller) (DVD)

Dead Space 3– Isaac Clarke returns, joined by soldier John Carver, to chase a risky plan that promises to finally stop the Necromorphs.
