Manitouwadge Treated To TBSO Performances
MANITOUWADGE, ON – Manitouwadge arts enthusiastswere treated to a very special evening recently as the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestras’ visited as part of the TBSO on Tour.
Having performed a very well received set, for local school children in the morning, the orchestra led by Associate Conductor Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser, switched things up for the evening audience with a collection of love themed compositions in “Dance Me to the End of Love“. The moving pieces included familiar favourites such as Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Overture and the Dance Suite from Swan Lake, in addition to: Brahms Hungarian Dance No. 1, Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 4; Belle Qui Tiens Ma Vie by Arbeau; Whitacre’s October; wrapping up the evening with more modern pieces; Germanotta’s Lady Gaga Fugue and Bernstein’s West Side Story.
Bartholomew-Poyser’s friendly demeanor added a very personable ambiance to the evening. He provided introductions to the pieces which were both informative and interesting, drawing the audience in by explaining the historical context of each piece or collection, encouraging attendees to listen for special moments in each, and pointing out more subtle details for the audience like why certain instruments were chosen for specific parts ensuring that everyone was equipped with the necessary knowledge to the performance to the fullest.
Thank you to the Nite on the Town Entertainment Series (NOTES) who collaborated to bring such a wonderful evening of art to Manitouwadge and to the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra for their deeply moving performance.
