OPP Investigate Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision South of Manitouwadge

OPPcolourMANITOUWADGE, ON – On December 2, 2016 at approximately 5:15pm officers from the Manitouwadge/Marathon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a two vehicle collision involving two pickup trucks on Highway 614 approximately 16 km south of Manitouwadge.

Police and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) attended the scene and determined that a Dodge Ram pickup was travelling northbound on Highway 614 and impacted with a Nissan pickup that was traveling southbound.   The driver of the Nissan, a 66-year-old female identified as Louisette (Lulu) MASSICOTTE from Manitouwadge was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene. The lone occupant of the other vehicle was transported from the scene by EMS with non-life threatening injuries.

Highway 614 was closed for approximately 10.5 hours. A post mortem is scheduled for Monday December 5, 2016 at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre in Thunder Bay.

Manitouwadge OPP officers, Fire, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and an OPP Reconstructionist and a Technical Traffic Collision Investigator attended the scene and the circumstances of the collision are being investigated. Further information will be released once obtained.
