Way back in 2002, the world was taken by storm with a new reality TV show unlike any they had ever seen before. Random people from across the US were thrust into the spotlight to showcase their vocal skills under the microscope of judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson. Over the years, “American Idol” would produce major stars while also inspiring spin off shows like “X-Factor” and “The Voice”. In this week’s headline new release, “Sing”, a theatre owner launches a singing competition of his own in hopes of spurring business for his struggling facility. Featuring an all-star voice cast, Sing leads a batch of nine new movies this week, with a brief synopsis of each below;

Across the Line: starring Stephan James and Sarah Jeffery – A young, black NHL hopeful living in a racially divided Nova Scotian community finds his career prospects in jeopardy when tensions in his community boil over. (Drama) (DVD)
Devil’s Daughter (aka Blackcoat’s Daughter): starring Emma Roberts – Two girls must battle a mysterious evil force after getting left behind at their boarding school over winter break. (Horror/Thriller) (DVD)
