BATCHEWANA FIRST NATION, ON– Today eager members of the Batchewana First Nation (BFN) gathered amongst local leadership and staff to celebrate the completion of their Rankin Townhouse complex.

Construction of the project began in June of 2017 after Chief and Council identified a housing shortage.

The townhouse project was aimed at accommodating families of 3 or less, singles/couples and First Nation Elders, all demographics that have the most difficulty finding suitable housing.

Since the onset of construction the BFN housing department has received over 40 applications for the 10 (2 bedroom) units. Applicants range from local members to individuals across Canada looking to move back to their home community.

BFN was proud to utilize a local First Nation owned and operated General Contractor for the project which also helped improve employment for the First Nation.

BFN Chief and Council would like to recognize the financial contributions from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).
