Q&A Session at Saturday Screening of There Are No Fakes

Saturday, June 22 at 2pm, award-winning director Jamie Kastner will be participating in a video Q&A session following the screening of his documentary film There Are No Fakes at Magnus Theatre. The film is presented by the Thunder Bay Art Gallery in collaboration with Magnus Theatre.

There Are No Fakes, uncovers the shocking details surrounding the largest art forgery in Canadian history. The forgery centres on the work of the widely known Indigenous artist Norval Morrisseau. There Are No Fakes is a nearly unbelievable tale of art forgery, exploitation and violence that takes place in Thunder Bay and other parts of Northwestern Ontario. It introduces a handful of individuals who have been directly involved in the creation and sale of fraudulent Morrisseau art. Kastner’s film shines a spotlight on the deception and its implications for collectors and Canadian galleries.

“One of the most vital, complex, and controversial Canadian films of the year”

Andrew Parker, The Gate Entertainment Magazine

“It’s a complicated but fascinating story that touches on art forgery, appropriation of voice, cultural genocide and even murder.”

Chris Knight, The National Post

“One of the most riveting Canadian docs I’ve seen in some time.”

Tom Power, CBC Radio

The Thunder Bay Art Gallery has one of the largest collections of works by Norval Morrisseau in Canada.
