OPP INVESTIGATE ROBBERY

LONGLAC, ON – On September 03, 2019, at 10:49pm, member of the Greenstone Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a robbery that had occurred at a residence in Longlac, ON.

Police received a 911 call advising that a male had approached a residence on Greenwood Street carrying a sword. The suspect assaulted a person in the residence with the weapon and threatened the occupants. The suspect then left the area on foot. The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries as a result of the assault.

Police were able to identify the suspect and located him a short time later on foot. The suspect was arrested without incident and transported to the Greenstone OPP Detachment. Police also seized several edged weapons and a small quantity of Methamphetamine.

[Edited by ONN]A male, age 40, of Ginoogaming First Nation, has been charged with the following offences.

  1. Robbery with Violence contrary to section 344(1)(b) of the Criminal Code
  2. Utter Threats to Cause Bodily Harm contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.
  3. Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose contrary to section 88 of the Criminal Code
  4. Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose contrary to section 88 of the Criminal Code
  5. Fail to Comply with Recognizance contrary to section 145(3) of the Criminal Code
  6. Fail to Comply with Recognizance contrary to section 145(3) of the Criminal Code
  7. Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Methamphetamine contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

[Edited by ONN] The afforementioned individual made a brief court appearance by video on September 04, 2019 where he was remanded into custody and transported to the Thunder Bay District Jail.
