TELEPHONE FRAUD ATTEMPT

WAWA, ON –  March 18th, 2012 the Ontario Provincial Police Superior East Wawa Detachment were advised by a local complainant of a possible telephone scam.  The complainant reported that multiple calls were made to their home advising they had won a lottery inLas Vegas,Nevada.  The caller had extensive information about the complainant and used this to try and convince them to send 1 percent of the winnings back.  The fraud was not successful and the complainant has since blocked the caller.

OPP reminds the public to be wary of telephone calls and emails that seem too good to be true.  Do not give personal information over the phone or send money to anyone without confirming the caller’s identity and the validity of the information being provided.
