SUPERIOR EAST, ON– This week, May 12 – 18 is Police Week across Ontario and the theme is “Walk the Digital Beat – a new Era of Engagement”.  The aim is to increase community awareness and recognition of policing services and strengthening partnerships between police and the community.

"We are grateful to the police and their community partners for all they do to keep our communities safe,"said Madeleine Meilleur, Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services."This era of digital engagement is important to embrace because it gives police services new, dynamic methods of consulting with and informing the public. I'm proud of Ontario's police services for the pioneering work they've been doing in this area."

“Our partnership with the community is essential in preventing crime and making our citizens safer” Staff Sergeant Loranger said. “The police can’t do it alone. We need the support of every resident in our communities. Police Week is a great opportunity to engage people in our community on topics such as crime prevention programs and community policing.”

To promote these partnerships the Wawa Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has partnered with Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) and Wawa and Area Victim Services to present to seniors on how to identify fraud and protect themselves.  This presentation will be held on Friday May 17, 2013 from 2 pm to 4 pm at the Michipicoten Memorial Community Centre.
