3:31 PM EST Wednesday 19 February 2014

Potential for 25 to 30 cm of snow starting Thursday night into Friday.

An Alberta clipper and Texas low will be tracking towards the Great Lakes where they will merge and rapidly intensify into a major winter storm. This storm is expected to reach Lake Superior Thursday overnight. The heaviest snowfall will begin Thursday night and last through the day on Friday. Total snowfall amounts of 25 to 30 cm of snow are possible by Friday evening. A further few centimetres of snow will most likely fall Friday night but by then the main concern will be the risk of blowing snow.

Travellers are urged to exercise caution as heavy snow and blowing snow could result in sudden reductions in visibility. Furthermore it is advised to check out your local road conditions in case of road closures due to the weather.
