RED ROCK, ON – St. Hilary School students and staff celebrated “Spirit Week” during the first week of March.>We decided that we needed some “extra” fun activities to lift our spirits during this LONG, COLD WINTER! The week was packed full of fun and learning!

It all started Monday with crazy hair day and a visit from Science North during the day. Then in the evening, there was a very well-attended family medieval night held in the gym by Science North.

Shrove Tuesday the students enjoyed a pancake breakfast. Thank you to our two ‘Top Chefs’ – Ron Sutton and Bev Nyman. The students ate breakfast in style sporting their unique hats for crazy hat/glasses day.

Wednesday the students celebrated Ash Wednesday mass with Father Donne at St. Hilary Church. Mrs. Nystrom organized the mass with the help of her kindergarten students and other student members. It was wonderful to celebrate the first day of Lent with parents and parishioners. The students and staff also enjoyed showcasing their favourite sports jerseys that day!

The week ended with pajama day and a pizza lunch organized by Mrs. Olson. Even though students were wearing their pajamas there was no sleeping, as all classes celebrated World Math Day. Parents were invited during the numeracy block to engage in problem solving activities and math games with their students.

The last week before March Break was busy and fun! St. Hilary School was also able to generate some funds to help support the Superior North Catholic district school board’s initiative to build latrines in the community of Nguosani. Last year as a school board, we raised $8,500. to build a school in this community. Since we surpassed this goal, we decided to build a well and latrines to help the people of Nguosani. St. Hilary School raised $200 this week to help support Nguosani. We thank all of the families for their generous donations and for helping to teach our students how important it is to be caring, responsible citizens who serve others like our Master teacher, Jesus.
