Forest Fire Situation Update Northwest Region

There are now 539 personnel from the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry on assignment in Alberta (107), British Columbia (301) and the Northwest Territories (131) to assist in ongoing forest fire management efforts (see map provided by MNR below for approximate location of Out Of Province assignments).

Rotation of resources is now occurring and an Incident Management Team along with overhead personnel are scheduled to return from British Columbia on July 29 and 30.

Ontario is also providing equipment including 400 power pumps, two thousand lengths of hose and two values protection units to British Columbia.

OOP

There was one new fire reported in the Red Lake District of the region by the evening of July 29. Red Lake Fire Number 18 is currently classed as not under control at 0.3 hectares in size. It is located about 112 kilometers northwest of Red Lake near the Ontario/Manitoba border

The fire hazard is moderate to high in the southwest and northern sectors of the region and low in the east where rain fell in the past day.

Report forest fires in the Northwest Region and the Northeast Region (for areas north of the French and Mattawa Rivers) by dialing 310-FIRE (3473). Southern region forest fires can be reported by calling the local fire department.
