MARATHON, ON – August 20, 2014 Highway 17, approximately 3km West of Penninsula Road (Marathon turn-off), was closed for several hours following a motor vehicle collision involving a pick-up truck and a transport.

Drivers waited patiently, many taking the opportunity to get out and stretch or allow pets or children to get some fresh air, as the lines of vehicles, travelling both East and West, grew longer while police investigated the crash site.  Eventually the highway was opened to one lane at approximately 1pm, the congestion quickly dissipating. By 3pm, when OntarioNewsNorth.com travelled back through the area, both lanes were open though police were still directing traffic and heavy equipment and a tow truck were being used to remove the vehicles which had been involved in the incident.

Ontario Provincial Police have yet to release an update or additional information regarding the incident via the OPP online news portal, OntarioNewsNorth.com will publish an update if/when a release is issued by police.
