We’re excited to let you know about some events happening at Pukaskwa National Park this upcoming weekend.

Coffee House Concert

Pukaskwa will be hosting an intimate coffee house-style concert on Friday, October 3 at 7pm in the Hattie Cove Visitor Centre.  The featured musician is Ontario-based Skarni, an independent solo artist who is close to finishing an extensive Canadian tour. Come out for an evening of entertaining musical talent! Skarni offers a nostalgic musical journey, featuring great hits from great performers like Elvis, The Beatles, Willie Nelson and more. Concert admission is included in the daily park entry fee: $5.80 per adult, $4.90 for seniors, $2.90 for youth or $14.70 for a family. Locally roasted coffee and tea will be available for sale at the Visitor Centre. Please call the park at (807) 229-0801 extension 252 for more information.

Guided Fall Hike

On Saturday, October 4, join Pukaskwa staff for a full-day guided hike on the Coastal Hiking Trail. The full-day hike will depart from the Hattie Cove Visitor Centre at 9am, and we expect to be back around 7 or 8 hours later. The Coastal Hiking Trail is rugged and remote, and takes you through the boreal forest, wetlands and rocky terrain, with steep climbs and dramatic vistas of Lake Superior. You’ll pass the site of the park’s 2012 experiential prescribed fire, where you can witness first-hand the positive effects of fire on the boreal forest. The hike will go to the White River Suspension Bridge that spans the powerful Chigaamawinigum Falls, then will return to Hattie Cove.

This full-day, 18km round trip hike is geared toward adventurous people who enjoy a challenging hike, but who might feel more assured going with a group and a guide. We will be stopping for lunch. Bring proper footwear, lunch and a snack, and plenty of water! Dress for the weather and wear layers, as things can get chilly by the river. This hike will happen rain or shine!

The hike is included in the park’s daily entry fee. Fees are $5.80 per adult, $4.90 for seniors, $2.90 for youth or $14.70 for a family.
