Upon the completion of the Commission of Inquiry (Click to view reports) into the collapse of the Algo Mall I would like to join many others who are offering their thanks and gratitude to Commissioner Bélanger and the members of his team who have worked so hard to present a thorough report.

I want to take this opportunity to once more send my regrets to the families of Doloris Perizzolo and Lucie Aylwin.  I am sure that the completion of this part of the process is as welcome for these families as it is for the community that grieved along with them and also struggled to understand how this could happen.  As we go forward we must always remember that at the heart of this issue are individuals, their loved ones, and a community that has suffered great loss.  I feel Justice Bélanger has maintained that perspective and his work reflects that as well.
The Commission of Inquiry has allowed us to deconstruct the events that led to the collapse of the Algo Mall on June 23rd, 2012 and also points to the work that must be done to ensure an event like this is avoided in the future.   It is only by making use of the recommendations in the Commission’s report that we can fully honour the lives of Doloris Perizzolo and Lucie Aylwin and make something good out of such a tragedy.
