Barricaded Person Incident Under Investigation In Neskantaga First Nation

napssmLANSDOWNE HOUSE, ON – Tuesday, January 13, 2015, in the First Nation community of Neskantaga, Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service (NAPS) began an investigation into an incident of a barricaded person within a residence.

Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at approximately 12:30 a.m., Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service Neskantaga Detachment received a report of an intoxicated person threatening suicide.  Several shots were fired by the subject that resulted in the deployment of the NAPS Emergency Response Team, Crime Unit, Canine Unit and additional front-line officers to the location.  The support of the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit has also been requested.  

As this situation remains unresolved, NAPS and OPP resources continue to remain on scene in the interest of the safety of the public.  This incident is ongoing and more information will be released once it has been received.

Neskantaga First Nation is located approximately 580 km northwest of Thunder Bay.
