Local artists gain exposure through weekend fundraiser

by Karina Hunter

Friday, August 7th the Manitouwadge Humane Society held a Silent Auction with wine & cheese in the lower level of KG’s Bar and Lounge. Local professional and hobby artists from a variety of specialties including oil paints, cross-stitch, stained glassware, and photography donated a variety of works for a one-day silent auction garnering well over a thousand dollars in funds for the charity which continues to be challenged with the overwhelming costs of feeding, immunizing, lodging, neutering and spading the animals in their care. Artists voiced enthusiasm for the opportunity to present and display their creations to the community in such a relaxed environment, especially appreciative of the space given for sale of additional items. Lulu Massicotte, Humane Society philanthropist, was appreciative of the generosity shown by both the artists and bidders. Massicotte added that in spite of the success of the auction, the society was already looking towards their next event “We can’t stop (fundraising); these animals just want to be loved and we need to care for them until they are found a good, safe home”.

If you are looking for a pet, the Humane Society shelters across the Northshore have animals of a variety of ages, species, and breeds in need of good homes, call your local shelter today!
