Silent Auction

Title: Silent Auction
Location: KG\’s Bar & Lounge
Description: Fundraiser for the Mtwdge Humaine Society
Start Time: 12:00
Date: 2009-08-07

I’ve ordered my prints, working on a binder with a few event coverage collections (Relay for Life, Museum’s Hillbilly day, School Grads ect.) that people will be able to browse through should they choose to buy prints. I am feeling a little nervous about a couple of my print choices and hope they look how I’ve imagined. I do hope that my next opportunities for something like this, include more than a few weeks notice (in Lulu’s defense, I called her a full week after she left a message but even that would not have been sufficient). I am focusing on enjoying and maximizing the ‘opportunity’ and keeping in mind not to be to critical of myself or what I come up with (even having attended something like this before would have been a big help but you can’t always have the best scenario).

The silent auction went well in spite of my only receiving 1/2 the prints I ordered for it and then none of them arrived framed. The Manitouwadge Humane Society had KG’s basement set up quite nicely (dissapointing that there was a miscommunication about times and Guy apparently tried to kick them out around 7pm though the scheduled time was 9 and they had an ambiance to maintain… they were pushed into 1/2 the room to fit in the regular poker game though there is another 1/2 to the basement which really ruined there set up leaving no place for the prints for sale nor for the ‘wine and cheese’ for anyone who came after 730 – real bummer) there were quite a few bids however (my Dad was bummed at being out bid on one of my 3 print frames) and the Humane Society ended the evening raising a ‘couple thousand’ Lulu Massicotte told me. I think the location caused some issue without the backdoor being open to offer accessibility to those ppl unable to manage the huge flight of stairs + I tried giving the msg early on that there was not adequate signage out front but to no avail. Around supper time I remembered that I had a huge yellow plastic sign board and painted WINE & CHEESE on it with the relevant info then nailed it to a sign post outside the building so that it could be seen all the way from the traffic circle – too little too late, should have been encouraged to do so when I offered it at lunch.

ANYHOW, glad the non-profit was happy with the results, not certain if I would participate again without being involved in the promotion before hand though. Thanks to all those who came out and placed bids!

Wadgefest continued to roll on, this was Friday so that evening would be the community campfire, then in the morning there would be the parade, baseball tourney, and other activites that evening (including the beer gardens) and more Sunday…
