Manitouadge General Hospital (MGH) welcomed visitors Friday as part of their 50th Anniversary festivities. A 50th anniversary flag was raised by Bob Kirkpatrick, chair of MGH’s board of directors before hospital and allied services staff assembled for a group photo. Reta Kalincak, member of the board of directors, guided those in attendance on tours of the hospital which included a walk through the acute and long term wings less frequently viewed by the public the later including a recently completed common room which offers a scenic view of Lake Manitouwadge.
Attendees were treated to a giant cake in the board room where photo albums of staff, patients and residents of the long term care wing from both the old hospital building and the current hospital, opened in 1996, were on display along with a variety of artifacts. This day also marked the deadline (3pm) for submission of pieces to be sealed in the hospital’s time capsule, which were also on display as the time capsule is scheduled to be physically sealed later this week until 2059. The afternoon wrapped up with finalization of a medical equipment fundraiser. Jocelyn Bourgoin, Director of Organizational Effectiveness and Planning for MGH earned $3000.00 in donations as he shaved his mustache, worn for the past 30 years, and his beard, worn for 9yrs fulfilling his commitment to donors. Congratulations to Manitouwadge General Hospital for 50 years of caring for residents and visitors of the community.
