MARATHON/MANITOUWADGE OPP GET REPORT CARD FROM COMMUNITY

MARATHON ON – Between February and March 2012, an independent private firm conducted a telephone survey with the residents of Marathon and Manitouwadge to determine the community satisfaction level regarding policing of their communities. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) takes pride in keeping our communities safe and secure. By conducting these surveys, citizens get to indicate their degree of satisfaction with the OPP detachment in their town.

The results for the Marathon Detachment, which includes the towns of Marathon and Manitouwadge, were exceptional.  Overall, 96.8% of the respondents were satisfied or very satisfied with the quality of police service offered in their community. Other results are as follows:

  • 98% of respondents feel safe or very safe in their community.
  • 96% said the OPP were involved or very involved in their community.
  • 95% were satisfied or very satisfied with the OPP’s ability to work with the communities to solve local problems.
  • 97% indicated that the OPP officers in their community are approachable and friendly.

Staff Sergeant Chris Whaley presented the results of the survey to Marathon Town Council recently and stated, “The results of this survey illustrates the quality of the officers in our communities. They deserve the credit for these outstanding results”. He continued that the results also show that there are some areas in need of improvement, “For example, 82% of respondents were satisfied with the ease of contacting the OPP which means that 18% were not satisfied and quite frankly, that is too high.”

The full results of the survey will be available in the Marathon Detachment annual business plan.

The OPP strives to ensure safe, secure communities and maintain a high level of professionalism while conducting daily operations. The public is encouraged to assist with keeping our communities safe, by reporting incidents and watching for suspicious activities.
