BATCHEWANA, ON – Batchewana First Nation (BFN) has declared a state of emergency due to the excess rainfall, which has caused major flooding, and road washouts.
The extreme weather effected all of Batchewana First Nation’s land bases, Rankin, Obadjiwan, Whitefish Island and primarily Goulais Bay.
Emergency response units advise that response times may be delayed due to accessibility issues.
The First Nation has issued a boil-water advisory at this time to ensure the health and safety of all citizens. The BFN health staff will be testing water in each community, until results are confirmed the advisory will remain in effect.
Batchewana First Nation community members are asked to contact the Band office with any questions or to report any damages, or safety hazards.
