Summerfest Fish Derby Update

The Marathon Fish Dery Weigh Trailer equipped with precision scales thanks to the Northshore Metis Nations.

MARATHON, ON – Sat.July 3rd,2010.  The Summerfest Fish Derby continued today, with the first day on the water for anglers who came from accross the Northshore and the US joining the many locals participatig. 

 Many boats were challenged during the afternoon as reported 6 and 7 foot waves swelled on a stormy Lake Superior.Their were mixed opinions regarding fish activity during this time; fisherman in larger boats, like Andre Paris telling OntarioNewsNorth.com that fish started to bite just as the storm began; while some in smaller boats felt this had been precisly when the biting stopped.

Saturday’s Weigh-in included the following results:

Biggest Trout caught by 6 year old Ethan Desmoulin, was 13.59lbs

Smallest Trout was 2.18lbs

Biggest Salmon caught by Phillip Vizier was 8.55lbs.

Summerfest Co-Chair Terry Ryan, Alden Luce of the Northshore Metis Nations and volunteer Sherry Mathies assisted the fishermen & fisherwomen in weighing their catches throughout the day.
