Sunday Feb.15 – Ontario Family Day

Last year, 2008, Ontario had it’s first official Family Day which was

put in place fufilling an election promise from Premier Dalton McGuinty. It is great to see that, in Manitouwage, this is being taken to heart with the majority of businesses/services (including all the schools, the OEYC Family Place, both grocery stores and all of downtown and others) closing to protect their employees option for special family time.

The hospital of course could not close and although the RN’s were receiving holiday pay for the day, I was dissapointed to learn that the RPN’s apparently, were not, as it did not exist when their last contract was agreed upon.

As for myself and the kids, we did very much take advantage of this special day.  We had a nice morning, the kids played together alot. I set up and watched Emeraude paint wrapping paper for a gift she had for a friend.  It was great, she is so much fun to watch and I love that she now enjoys using more than just paintbrushes as tools. This day she included an old toothbrush which she used to ‘splatter’ and brushed paint on with; a sponge roller, and one of her smaller paintbrushes.

Lloyd made lunch for he & his sister while I quickly finished up some work on photos & an article I was writing then Dad picked me up for a quick trip to the hospital (pain meds) while the kids finished getting dressed in their ski gear. I returned and we were on our way to the hill!

Lloyd was AWESOME, joining Emeraude & I for many runs with I appreciated and enoyed alot!

The day ended on a different note as I began feeling ill almost emediately upon our arrival at the hill and was nauseous by the time Emeraude & I came down from our last run. So much so that I began carrying around grocery bags worried that I might throw up any minute. As soon as I arrived home I changed into pj’s and tried to lay down but the head pressure that had been mild earier quickly became very severe and I realized I had to get to the hospital immediately, while I was still able to speak for myself. Unfortunately, this did not help and 3hrs later I was back home, very ill and having not received the meds I usually get in this situation but will write about that in another post (will add a link here as soon as it is posted).
