Tramadol – Ultram Drug Information by MedicineNet.com

New oral med that Dr. Crawford has suggested I try. Side effects mostly similar to morphine (which are just a little more concerning than Dilaudid… just minute differences really, I have taken morphine for pain control in the past).

The version he has prescribed is long acting, I probably would have tried the immediate release first had I been asked my opinion, as I would have thought we’d be more likely to establish wether or not they are useful that way… Because long acting oral meds are so slow to take effect, my pain will be quite out of control and much more difficult to get at a tolerable level by the time they would take effect. Then again, I am not a doctor and he must have a reason for thinking it is better to start with the slow release (if they do work, an immediate release med would also be necessary for break-through pain).
