Pukaskwa National Park

6827 01_02_2008On our way home from the trip to Thunder Bay in August which turned into a week long vacation, we were almost home when Lloyd asked if we could make one more stop, at Pukaskwa National Park. I was so thrilled that my teenager wasn’t tired of being with his family yet and wanted to extend it just a little more that of course I said yes. It was a wonderful afternoon. Lloyd had a great time getting his sister to play in the waves of Lake Superior (even with his cast & crutches!) he is such an awesome kid and she was giggling and screaching loving every minute of it, feeling like she could face anything if her Big Brother was by her side.

6821 01_02_2008We had first gone to the reception office, it has a beautiful view off the deck in the back, there was a couple going by on an ‘aqua-bike’ really neat! Inside there was a huge puzzle made of a map of the park which Emeraude was proud to put it together, together (not a typo, pause between them lol).  This is also where she bought her geode (click here for the post on our geode ‘smashing’).

There were really neat displays of native dresses, a voyageur canoe with fur trade supplies and we had lucked out with timing as there was a Native Interpreter not far away who explained teepees and shelters set up near her. We were cautious to stay loud while there as there were Bear warning posters everywhere (dealing with nuisance bears is quite different in our national parks to in a town like Manitouwadge where they are shot or removed via live trap).

It was just a great stop, so thankful that Lloyd asked too and Emeraude wanted to as well thinking of it now puts a big smile on my face.
