CAD @ MHS

I hadn’t realized that this article had yet to be posted. It should have been added last weekend, I do need links for all the articles I write so have decided to post it regardless of the delay.

Recruiters from the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) were in the foyer at Manitouwadge High School last week; Sergeant Stewart, a recruiter from Thunder Bay, welcomed inquiries from students in regards to careers in CAF Army, Navy or Air Force branches. Stewart, a retiree of the regular forces has been serving as a reservist for the past 2 years and has an obvious affection for his work. He offered those interested informative pamphlets, brochures and DVD’s available for each of the aforementioned branches. During this time, a second recruitment officer Sergeant Lafond was in Mrs. GG Jones Career Studies class giving a more detailed presentation of similar information.

Stewart also had for review a binder with the complete listing of jobs which are available through the Canadian Armed Forces explaining that nearly every civilian job exists in the forces, and that students could go through college or university without the stress of loans to payback once finished if they were ready and willing to serve their country as payment for their education.  The team returned to Marathon where they were staying while visiting Northshore schools but was back through Manitouwadge the next day to travel the industrial towards Longlac where their next presentations were to be held.  If you are interested in a career with the Canadian Armed Forces, contact Sergeant Stewart at 807-343-5143 or visit CFRC DetThunder Bay, at 33 Court St Suite 104. The Canadian Armed Forces recruitment team visits Manitouwadge approximately 3 times a year and is hoping to return in the spring.

9330 01_01_2000I was accompanied by Emeraude who thought the information Sergeant Stewart had was fascinating. He was nice enough to offer her any of the branded items he had available though she was not at all greedy, turning down many which I thought she might like. She was concerned with bringing something home for Lloyd which would suit him well. The Sergeant suggested she choose a bracelet, actually offering that she take one of each colour and again, she initially declined the offer but I was able to convince her that if she did not take them, she would be wanting them later lol.

Afterwards I helped her look through a career binder that was part of the resources Sergeant Stewart had available; we were both surprised at the variety of jobs available through the different branches (army, navy, air force) of the armed forces (as Sergeant Stewart pointed out, pratically every civilian job has an armed forces equivalent). I was very grateful to the sergeant for his patience and the time he took to answer Emeraude’s inquiries, she very much enjoyed meting him.
