Artificial snow is blown up the T-Lift path on the main hill.

As Christmas holidays draw near, preparations at Kiwissa Ski Hill continue at full speed.  Snow making has been going on daily as six snow guns, creating a base on the hill, have been blowing for nearly a week.  Today two additional snow guns were added to the Kiwissa arsenal’s active list. Dave Young, Public Works Township of Manitouwadge, explained that, with Mother Nature’s cooperation, the hill could potentially be open as early as the 20th of December while they are committed to ensuring it is no later than a week past that day on the 27th in time for holiday visiting friends and family to enjoy the first class skiing facility.

Last month before the snow had fallen, Lauchie Meagher, B&M Hauling, had  contacted the Ski Hill to offer the use of an operator & excavator for the afternoon. B&M spent four hours at the hill doing clean up, adding a platform to the base of the access run to the main hill and building jumps which will certainly be much appreciated by snowboarders and skiers alike. This season promises to be great for the Kiwissa Ski Hill as a new run is also in the works on the North Side of the mountain which would run parallel to the Bunny Run, crossing the Power Line near Gog Lake.  Kiwissa has always welcomed area skiers from the East (Wawa, White River, Dubreuilville) and West (Marathon, Heron Bay, Schreiber, Terrace Bay) but expects these numbers will increase significantly in the 2009-10 season with the closure of Marathon’s Ski Hill.
