Manitouwadge High School’s fall athletic season came ended last month with the Jr. Boys Volleyball team taking North Superior Secondary School Athletic Association (NSSSAA) Gold for the second straight year.  Sr. Girls Basketball team earned NSSSAA Silver, while the Sr. Boys finished with Bronze in Volleyball.

The Jr. Boys completed a second consecutive undefeated (8-0) NSSSAA campaign with victories over Geraldton (25-6, 25-12) and St. Joseph (25-9, 25-23). The NSSSAA title adds to the Gold the team achieved at the Lakehead Thunderwolves Jr. Boys Challenge in October.

The Sr. Girls opened their Finals schedule with a victory over Chapleau.  In the banner-game, a re-match of last year’s final against the Nip-Rock Lakers, the Wolverines fell 49-24.

In Sr. Boys Volleyball action, the Wolverines were defeated by Hornepayne (2-0) and Nip-Rock (2-0) in two hard-fought, close matches. Hornepayne would go on to win the first NSSSAA Sr. Boys Volleyball championship in its school’s history.

Manitouwadge Public School graduates and Grade Nine students, Courtney Brewer and Robin Avis, squared off in the Jr. Girls Basketball Final, with Brewer leading her Marathon Falcons to the NSSSAA title over Avis’s Nip-Rock Lakers.

The winter court season (Girls Volleyball and Boys Basketball) began on December 3rd with a Junior double-header at Manitouwadge High School against Marathon.
