In preparation for Frosty Days 2010 Opening Ceremonies at Kiwissa Ski Centre February 12th, skiers, snowboarders and employees at the centre along with members of the Kiwissa Ski Club, gathered at the base of the hill, for a group photograph to be framed and presented to Algoma-Manitoulin MPP Mike Brown during the ceremony in recognition of the $ 750, 000.00 he helped the Township of Manitouwadge acquire for the Kiwissa Ski Centre through the Canada-Ontario Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund (COMRIF) several years ago. In the front row a handmade Thank You sign was held by rental shop volunteers, Carol Barnes and Linda Hedderson while club president, Ed Hedderson stretched out in the snow like a model on the beach. The COMRIF moneys purchased a groomer and snow-making equipment for the centre which have been invaluable tools the past two seasons with accumulated snowfall less than ideal. Other preparations at the centre include the creation of a snow stage for presentations and registration for the torch run which will finalize the ceremony at dusk.  Organizers wanting, like everyone, to enjoy the Olympic Opening Ceremonies being held the same evening at 9pm, are carefully choreographing the evening’s events to ensure this is possible. Frosty Days 2010 will officially commence with Opening Ceremonies Friday, February 12th at the Kiwissa Ski Centre, all are welcome for skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing, bonfire, and the Citizen of the Year declaration, the fun begins at 6:30pm.
