The HEDDERSON?

Official but nameless

It’s official, residents of Manitouwadge received notice this weekend in their ‘Ad Bags’ that construction of the new run at Kiwissa Ski Centre was officially completed the weekend of January 23rd, 2010.  Traveling parallel to the Bunny Run, the new run is approximately 1km in length and receiving great
critique from all who have followed its descent. In addition to the big announcement, was a request from the township to residents of Manitouwadge “We need your help to name the new run” and so, a title must be found for Kiwissa’s newest and longest run.  Creative and imaginative persons are asked to submit their suggestions to the Leisure Services Department by Wednesday, February 10th at 4:30pm in a sealed envelope marked ‘New Run’.  No theme or guidelines were laid out to assist potential name-choosers though it is probably safe to assume that Bunny, Centennial, Glade, Pine, Main, Girl’s, Angel and Devil – names currently assigned to the other eight runs at the hill, are not in the running. Details of how the winning designation will be decided were not included though it will be officially adopted at Frosty Days Opening Ceremonies Friday, February 12th at 6:30pm.

MY OPINION… Though, as mentioned, I am uncertain as to how the winning name will be drawn, I would hope that if a significant number of skiers submitted the same name, it would be adopted out of respect for democracy if nothing else and so, I suggest to all of you who are skiers or snowboarders who have ever enjoyed Kiwissa that HEDDERSON would be a great name for the new run.. President Ed Hedderson and his wife Secretary and Rental Shop Supervisor Linda Hedderson have given countless hours to improving and maintaining Kiwissa and the quality of ski experience enjoyed there.  What better way to say Thank You then by naming a run after them?
