Ski Package in Thunder Bay

Day 2 of our weekend getaway has been quite nice.  Last night’s issues with the resort have been more than dealt with, I spoke briefly with the manager of the Nor’ Wester this morning before we headed to Loch Lomond and the staff have since gone out of their way to accomodate and serve – it is so nice when businesses really take the effort to fix a problem and make up for inconveniences. They went over and above this evening, even shuttling the boys to and from Loch Lomond for night skiing (which they thouroughly enjoyed).

We took things slow this morning. The boys were nice enough to go swimming with Emeraude during which time I slept a little more before getting dressed and heading down to find them.  Afterwards, we enjoyed breakfast at the resort cafe before getting our gear to head out to the hill.

The conditions at the hill were great today.  Emeraude and I spent the afternoon skiing on the beginner’s run which has it’s own little 2 seater chair lift.  She enjoyed riding up the hill and I am wordering if it will have spoilt her for home where a t-bar is our best means of ascent on the main hill. Lloyd & Mathew on the other hand, skied every inch of every run that Lomond has to offer.  They had started on the main hill (4 seater chair lift there) and it took some convincing to get Lloyd to try the others as he was thouroughly enjoying the mogul runs and did not think there could be anything better.  Thankfully, he did take my advice and finally ventured out to the other areas with about and hour and a half left.  It was that short time in fact which had him dreaming of night skiing lol.

During their night ski, apparently there were only 2 or 3 runs open on the main facing and so they decided to check out the trick hill once again (tons of jumps, rails, ‘bowls’); there they found a hundred or so teens skiing and snowboarding which was cool.  The two of them are quite social and so I can just imagine they probably struck up a few conversations along the way. At the very least, the company was not wasted on them, they were very vocal in regards to their enjoyment of the experience.

I spent my birthday funds after skiing, stopping at the ‘Shoe Store’ (near Micheal’s)finding 2 pairs of absolutely awesome shoes. I had originally hoped to replace my boots which are looking very worn and feeling, of late, as though the heels may give out in the next step.  They had none however (just a more limited supply of the inadequate boots that were there when I visited before Christmas) and so when I found the rad shoes, there was no debate, I was quick to continue to the cash and join the kids once again in the van.

We picked up Mickey D’s for supper, ate in our room before Lloyd was once again ready to bring Emeraude swimming. Matt and I joined them, myself to take photos, Matthew because the fitness centre is in the same area and that was his post-supper activity of choice. As already mentioned, the boys were then off to the hill again (shuttled by the resort); I gave Emeraude a quick shower and she was ready for bed. About 30 minutes later, Laura Jones called; I wish Emeraude would’ve known this before going to sleep (though perhaps it is a blessing in disguise that she did not as she might have stayed up all night in anticipation, her riding lesson has been arranged, tomorrow at Noon we will travel to South Gillies for her 2nd ever riding lesson. This one will not be with Laura though she assured me that the instructor guiving the course is just as great as herself. It should be another great experience (the 1st riding lesson in December had boosted Emeraude’s confidence in ways I had never anticipated but certainly appreciated!), especially with the boys there to see her in action.

Time for bed, tomorrow we will be returning. It’s been a great weekend so far, well worth the trip, will post plenty of photos upon my return. (though I have none of our one lone tubing trial lol).
