Student Entrepreneurs

McGuinty Government Helping Students Make Their Mark In The Business World

Ontario is encouraging students across the province to become Ontario’s next successful entrepreneurs through the Summer Company 2010 program.

Summer Company provides hands-on business training and mentoring, and up to $3,000 in funding to help enterprising students (aged 15 to 29) start up and run their own summer business.  Applicants must prepare a viable business plan and work with a local program provider.  Successful applicants get the opportunity to set up their own company and keep all the profits they can generate. The program teaches youth entrepreneurial skills that add value to their personal and career goals.  Final program applications including a complete business plan are due on May 6, 2010.

QUICK FACTS

  • In 2009 over 600 students launched their own summer companies, a record number for the program.
  • A 2008 study estimated that graduates from the program from 2001-2006 were collectively operating 375 small businesses,
accounting for 870 jobs and $11.4 million in annual revenue.
