Students give their toys

Kindergarten Students from St. Martin School Make a Difference

Following the Ice Storm of 2009, the JK/SK students at St. Martin School were very concerned about the trees that were lost in the community of Terrace Bay.  The students were learning about the environment and how they should recycle garbage and reuse things that were still useful.  This gave them the idea to recycle their old toys.  As a class they decided to hold a garage sale in their classroom; this endeavour gave the students enough money to buy a Flowering Almond tree for the front of the school.

This year the students have also been learning about the environment, the water cycle and the world around them.  They have read books about protecting the earth and cleaning up the environment, they reuse paper in the classroom, they do not laminate, they use their pencils to the ends, and they turn off the lights in the afternoon.

They decided to put their faith into action and make a difference in Terrace Bay again this year!   The Kindergarten students donated their old toys and books to a Garage Sale they hosted at the annual Green Trade Show.  Through their hard work and efforts the students raised close to $500.00!  Once again they will use this money in our community and school to help make a difference!
