Netamisakomik Elementary BBQ Fundraiser

PIC MOBERT FIRST NATION – May 21,2010 – The Grade 7/8 class at Netamisakomik Education Centre held a fundraising barbecue today to raise money for their upcoming trip to Ottawa.  The students have been working hard to prepare for the trip and have been receiving great support from the community. Approximately 100 orders were placed at today’s event for which the children had prepared order forms in advance, allowing hungry friends and family order hot dogs, hamburgers and refreshments either individually or by choosing discounted combo meals.

Teacher Adam Foresight was very pleased with the turnout at today’s barbecue and was looking forward to the trip with anticipation “It is a great opportunity for the students to visit their nation’s capital and see what life is like outside the reserve” said Foresight.

Trips such as these by Grade 7/8 classes at Elementary Schools across the Northshore are a long standing tradition. Most include visits to parliament whether on a federal level as with the Netamisakomik students visiting Ottawa, or to the provincial legislature for schools who travel to Toronto, allowing children a look into how decisions are made, where their local MPs and MPPs regularly represent citizens, and have even inspired some to find careers in government.  Congratulations to the Netamisakomik students on a successful fundraiser, contact your local Northshore Elementary School to learn more about upcoming educational trips and how you can contribute to help them broaden their horizons.
