Giroux plugged at House of Commons

GIROUX’S OVERTIME HEROICS WORTH MENTION IN HOUSE OF COMMONS

Ottawa –   Rookie scoring sensation Claude Giroux’s overtime goal in game 3 of the Stanley Cup final was a topic of interest in the House of Commons this morning.

Rising to deliver a speech on the Budget Implementation Act, Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing MP, Carol Hughes acknowledged the Hearst resident’s heroics in potting the game-winner during last night’s contest.

“I would like to take the time to recognize that last night during the Stanley Cup finals, it was Claude Giroux of Hearst who scored the winning goal,” said Hughes. “We are extremely proud of this.”

Giroux has made a name for himself in the playoffs, scoring clutch goals and playing a huge role in the underdog Flyers improbable run to the Stanley Cup Finals.   He is not the first NHLer from Hearst though, former Montreal Canadien stalwart Claude Larose grew up there as well.

Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing has a rich history of sending players to the NHL going back to Little Current’s Danny Cox who played for the Toronto St. Pat’s in the 1927 season before they became the Maple Leafs.  Others include Espanola’s Al Secord, Smooth Rock Falls J.P. Parise, and Blind River’s Claude Julien who has had a successful run as an NHL coach.
