THUNDER BAY, ON – June 19th, 2010 – The Thunder Bay Vintage Sports Car Club hosted a memorable 3 day event this past weekend.  All types of vintage sports cars started arriving on Thursday to register and take part in a game of golf.  A total of 106 cars were registered with participants from Manitoba, Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota and other locations.  All types including MG’s, Triumph’s, Austin Healey’s, Mini Cooper’s, Lotus, Jaguar’s, Fiat’s, Volvo’s, Daimler and others were present.

Friday was the beginning of the main activities with a racing museum tour, a trip to Ouimet Canyon, an artisan tour and a Show n Shine with a barbeque at Chippewa Park hosted by the Friends of Chippewa.  Saturday had a trivia tour and a Time Distance Speed Rally where a driver and navigator were given a sheet of distances, average speeds and landmarks which produced a route to be followed.  The team that was closest to a predetermined completion time for the trip would be the winner.

After the rally there was time for a car wash before heading off to the Thunder Bay Charity Casino where there were a couple of city blocks cordoned off to display all the registered cars and many others.  There was live music playing all afternoon by the Sensational Hot Rods and plenty of food available on site.  Several hundred people came out to see the automobiles and to meet the owners.

The weekend concluded with a wonderful banquet during which the various awards were presented.  Hand made Inuksuk’s created from Amethyst were unique awards for various categories of vehicles.  A very elegant affair which ended with Mr. Tom Jones as a guest speaker.  Mr. Jones spoke of his racing career and his love for all things involving automobiles.

This event occurs once every 4 years in Thunder Bay as it is rotated amongst the clubs that were represented.  The next event is in Fargo, North Dakota in 2011
