Police Take Down 2nd Marihuana Grow Operation in Neebing Township This Month

(Thunder Bay, ON) On Aug 27th, 2010 Drug Enforcement Unit officers executed a Controlled Drug and Substances Act Search Warrant on Wamsley Road in Neebing Township with the assistance of officers from the Thunder Bay detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police.

Officers located outdoor and indoor marihuana grow operations on the property and seized 874 marihuana plants, 565 grams of dried marihuana and 5 firearms. The street value on the drugs seized is approximately 875,000 dollars.

Police believe this particular grow operation has been going on for several years.

Two Neebing Township residents have been charged with:

  •  Production of a Controlled Substance.
  •  Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking.
  • Insecure Storage of Firearms.

Police would like to remind the public that we are well into the marihuana growing season. Anyone with information on marihuana grows is encouraged to contact police or their local Crime Stoppers.

The Combined Forces Organized Crime Unit consists of members from The O.P.P.- Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, The Thunder Bay Police Service, The R.C.M.P., The Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service and The Anishinabek Police Service.
