There were no new fires reported in the West Fire Region by the evening of August 11. Active fires continue to be monitored and no problems are anticipated.

Ontario personnel in Saskatchewan are demobilizing resources and planning a return to Ontario. The first group of resources are scheduled to return to the West Fire Region on August 12 and a second group to the East Fire Region on August 13.

Ontario continues assistance to British Columbia with 288 staff and support through equipment provisions of hose, pumps and chainsaws.

East Fire Regon

There were two new fires confirmed on August 10.

Sudbury 147, near Raft Lake Road in the city’s south end, is under control at 0.6 hectares.  Kirkland Lake 18, near Nettie Lake Road, was 0.2 hectares in size but has been declared out.

Ontario now has 288 fire personnel in British Columbia in addition to 41 in Saskatchewan for a total of 329 Ontario fire personnel out of province. This includes FireRanger crews, Incident Management Teams, fire specialists and overhead staff. Ontario is also providing equipment to the western provinces such as pumps, fire hoses and sprinkler systems for values protection.

Requests for assistance for other provinces and territories are coordinated through the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre (CIFFC) in Winnipeg. Sufficient fire fighting personnel, equipment and aircraft remain in Ontario to meet current and forecast fire demands here. Ontario resources are stationed at several locations in British Columbia’s interior.

Residents are reminded that if found responsible for a forest fire, they can be charged under the Forest Fires Prevention Act and/or be liable for the costs of suppressing the fire.  This cost can easily run into the tens of thousands of dollars.
