Nipigon OPP Weekend Review

MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISIONS RESULT IN CHARGES

(NIPIGON, ON.) –During the weekend of August 13 to August 15, 2010 Nipigon and Schreiber Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) issued 45 Provincial Offence Notices and investigated 4 motor vehicle collisions.   Officers conducted 2 R.I.D.E. checks and responded to 33 calls for service.

Nipigon OPP investigated a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred at Hwy 17, Township of Turri on August 14th at 12:35 p.m.  Hwy 17 was closed to traffic for approximately four hours.  The driver of a pick up truck pulling a trailer travelling east bound lost control of the vehicle causing it to leave the roadway and hit a rock cut.  A 70 year old male passenger, Edwin Myers WHITTINGTON of Waterloo, Indiana, died at the scene of the collision.  A second male passenger and the male driver were transported by ambulance to McCausland Hospital in Terrace Bay for non life threatening injuries.  The 69 year old male driver of Angola, Indiana, was charged with Careless Driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

While on patrol Nipigon OPP came upon a single motor vehicle collision at Railway Street, Nipigon.   The driver of the vehicle was not at the scene upon police arrival.  Officers located the driver at the Nipigon Hospital where he attended for minor injuries.  The 21 year old male driver of Nipigon, Ontario was charged with Careless Driving and for Fail to Report an Accident contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

On August 15 at 3:30 p.m. Nipigon OPP attended a single motor vehicle collision at Hwy 11 and 17, Township of Stirling.   The 25 year old female driver of Geraldton, Ontario, lost control of her vehicle causing it to leave the roadway and roll over.  The driver was charged with Careless Driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
